Three Homemade Face Masks that Will Make Your Skin Glow

Face masks are the perfect pamper treat and making your own is as easy as walking to your kitchen.

With spring upon us and summer creeping ever closer, now is the perfect time to pamper your skin and let your natural glow shine through. The problem with many shop bought products is that although styled as hydrating, they can actually do more harm than good. Laden with chemicals that can strip your skin of essential oils, some face masks are not as nourishing as they may appear to be.

But help is at hand and it comes in the delicious form of foodstuff that you’ll most likely already have stocked up in your kitchen. So to give your skin a real treat, try these tasty homemade face masks.

Oats and Honey

Ingredients
2 tbsp oats
1 tbsp natural yogurt
1 tsp hot water
1 tsp honey (manuka honey is particularly effective for relieving blemishes)
Instructions
Mix the oats with the yogurt (if you prefer a smoother consistency you can blend the oats before mixing). Add the honey and hot water. When mixed, apply liberally to the face and leave for 15 – 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

Use if: you want deeply moisturised, soft skin. Oats contain amino acids which, when absorbed by the skin, can help fight blemishes and repair damage. Oats also help your skin retain moisture making this mask perfect for all skin types.

Strawberry and Lemon
DIY-Organic-Strawberry-Face-Mask-300×198

Ingredients
3 – 4 strawberries
1 tsp of fresh lemon juice
Remove the stalks from the strawberries and wash in warm water. Mash with a fork & then add the lemon juice. Stir together. Apply the mixture and leave for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

Use if: you are prone to breakouts and blemishes. Strawberries contain salicylic acid, a key acne fighting property used in commercially sold acne treatments. Lemon juice tightens pores and kills the germs that cause spots. It also helps to lighten skin and therefore reduce acne scars. For this reason, limit using the mask to no more than 1 – 2 times a week.

Use if: you have dry skin. The oils in the avocado will replenish the oils needed in your skin. It’s great for fighting wrinkles too.

So why spend a fortune on chemical-laden face masks when less abrasive and cheaper alternatives are already in your cupboard? Treat your skin (and your bank account) to an accessible and nutrient-rich face mask that will leave your skin radiant and nourished.
